Description

Lingua Franca is the exploration of Oregon with an open mind, focused on picking fruit optimally for freshness, tension and complexity—based on the varying conditions of the season and the terroir of individual vineyard blocks which are farmed by organic and regenerative farming principals

Estate PN 2023 has a very lifted aromatic nose with roses, spices of clove and cinnamon, black cardamom, and crushed rock. On the palate is fresh pomegranate, raspberry, and undertones of black cherry with tea notes and a savory herbal element. it is very fresh and well defined with many layers that unfold slowly on the palate, finishing with flavors of red currant and vanilla. The wine gains richness as it evolves in the glass but never loses its energy and excitement.

Aging The fruit was sorted in the vineyard, hand-picked, then wild-yeast fermented in medium sized concrete and stainless-steel tanks. This 2023 Estate has less than 2% whole cluster, the least of any vintage. Punch downs are done by traditional pigeage. After fermentation, it is aged in a combination of 24% new and 76% old French oak barriques for 12 months and six in tank.

Lingua Franca was co-founded by Larry Stone and Dominique Lafon in 2015, inspired by the exceptional vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills that Larry bought in 2012 and planted in 2013. Thomas Savre, who worked at some of the top domaines in Burgundy, is responsible for overseeing the winemaking and farming. He is a master at capturing the character of each vineyard site with every vintage.

Estate Pinot 2023 has a mixture of 10 vineyard blocks contributing from 5-14% each. This is by far the most diverse edition of Estate Pinot Noir. It may become the most representative of our complete terroir flavor profile, which will make it interesting to observe as it matures.
